Puppy Training Classes are crucial for teaching social skills, good manners, and a positive attitude about learning and are a great way to begin a happy and healthy relationship with your puppy. They are designed to teach you, as the puppy owner, how to properly socialize and teach your puppy basic commands, agility obstacles and good manners. Our classes are educational and entertaining for your whole family and will keep you and your dog mentally and physically engaged during each class. You will learn how to take your dog through real-life challenges with confidence.
The first step towards attending group classes is to attend an Orientation. This prerequisite two hour session will provide the information necessary to prepare you for group classes. We will discuss training terms and equipment, dog behavior and socialization, and class structure so that you are able to jump into classes right away. You will receive a packet with the Misty Pines Training Manual as well as other informational materials. Orientations are offered once a month on Wednesday evenings from 7 – 9pm. The Orientation is $60, classes are $15 each. Please pre-register via our online store or by calling our office at 412.364.4122. For a list of dates, please click here.
Puppies are welcome at Orientation but are not required to attend. The Orientation is 2 hours of information for you to digest, if you feel that having your puppy present will be a hindrance to your learning process, it may be better to leave your puppy at home. Then again, it is nice to have puppies available for demonstrations.
After attending the Orientation you may begin attending the Puppy Classes at any of the times listed below. Our classes are continuous and held every week. During each class we cover the entire curriculum so if you can’t make it one week for class you don’t need to worry about it, we’ll cover it again next week. Repetition trains, so your goal should be to attend at least one class per week.
Our flexible schedule gives you the ability to come to class when it is convenient for you. This type of schedule also means that when you begin attending class some of the puppies will have already been in the class for 4+ weeks. This provides your younger puppy with older role models and provides the dogs that have been in class new distractions.

Misty Pines does not believe that after a predetermined number of classes your dog will be ready for the next level so progression to the next level of classes is determined by an evaluation. During this evaluation you and your dog will need to demonstrate that you are able to complete a series of required behaviors. Scruffy Guider Collars are permitted, however; food lures/treats are not allowed, nor are Gentle Leader Collars.
Puppy Evaluation: All evaluations are by appointment and are held during your regularly scheduled class. This evaluation must be scheduled with a trainer. Cost is $18 pass or fail.
