SUMMARY:Warm Up and Practice Dock Diving Trial
DESCRIPTION:This will be a competition for practice\, fun and ribbons. \nThere will be 2 rounds of jumps. One will be at 9:30 am\, and one at 12:30 pm. Each dog entered will get 2 jumps off the dock. The better of the two jumps will determine the dog’s division and place in that division. When the afternoon jumps are over\, the top 6 dogs of each division will jump for 1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd place in their division. The top three places will receive a ribbon and prizes. \nNovice Division: 1 inch to 9 feet 11 inches.\nJunior Division: 10 feet to 14 feet 11 inches.\nSenior Division: 15 feet to 19 feet 11 inches.\nMaster Division: 20 feet to 22 feet 11 inches.\nElite Division: 23 feet to 24 feet 11 inches.\nSuper Elite Division: 25 feet and above. \nA Beginner Dock Diving Class for beginner and non-jumping dogs with experienced Dock Divers will take place from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm. This practice is limited to 15 dogs. \nNo parking will be permitted along the driveway. All parking will be in the parking lots at the top of the driveway. Participants and spectators are asked to bring lawn chairs to sit along the hillside\, which will provide a spectacular view of the event. \nEach round of jumps\, at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm\, will have a 50 dog maximum\, so be sure to get your spot soon. Participants will be organized into groups of 10 and each group will be assigned a jump time. \nEach handler/dog team needs to be here at least 30 minutes before their dock dive slot\, which would be 9:00 am or 12:00 pm. \nPay at event. Our most fit and athletic dogs can run on the treadmill at 8 -10 mph for twenty to thirty minutes! \n \nAt Misty Pines we say that a well-trained and well-exercised dog is a good dog and by working your dog on a treadmill you are accomplishing both at the same time. Why a treadmill\, you ask? You can infinitely exercise your dog indoors\, which means that you are no longer governed by the weather. \nBelow are some excerpts from an article by Jt Clough from All Things Dog Blog about treadmill training: \nMost people wish they had just some of the energy their bouncy happy-go-lucky dog naturally possesses. Unfortunately for many dogs bad behavior happens because the energy level the dog mom or dad has simply does not match the energy level of their dog. \nWhat are the reasons your dog would benefit from dog treadmill training? \nDogs need exercise. Some dogs need a lot of exercise and end up in some sort of trouble because of something they’ve done that was bad simply because they have energy that needed to be burned. Chewing on the house and all the things in it\, barking\, jumping up on people or pulling on the leash so hard while walking or running feels like a really frustrating task are a few of the reasons to think about adding a treadmill to your dog’s life. \nWeather conditions is another huge reason for treadmilling your dog. Too hot or too cold\, too windy or raining\, the treadmill is a great way to get your dog the exercise needed to remain a happy healthy\, well behaved dog. Lack of activity during winter months can not only put added pounds on your dog cutting years of their life but add to the misbehaving aspect of daily living as well. \nMany people feel like this option is one that will stop them from going outside and enjoying time with their dog and so never consider the idea\, when in fact the treadmill can open up the world to a dog who has bad leash manners. Exercise takes the edge off the nervous system in people and it works for dogs in the same way. \nWhat kinds of dogs do well with treadmill training? All dogs. Honestly. From big dogs to little dogs to anything in between treadmill training can benefit any dog for a variety of reasons. The training program can vary depending breed\, what kind of energy level and behavior you’d like to address with your dog or for training specific dog sports like agility or herding. \nTreadmill training programs can go from very basic to quite specific. As a DogTread Pro training expert\, I always recommend when starting a training program with your dog\, start with short periods of time–10 minutes or less. This is true for dogs that are already fit or need to lose a few pounds. Once your dog has become familiar with the activity and had time to loosen up muscle tissue and ligaments you’ll be able to build the workout time and find variations of speed and incline. \nAnother bonus that has come with this new activity to do with your dog is the number of people who end up catching the training endorphins from their own dog\, and find themselves exercising more. Even those who use some of the time to sit and answer e-mails while in the same room with their dog treadmill\, get the benefit of a stronger bond with their dog.

DESCRIPTION:Every dog is equipped with an amazing tool: their nose! Olfaction\, the act or process of smelling\, is a dog’s primary special sense. Dogs have more than 220 million olfactory receptors in their nose\, while humans have only 5 million! Teaching dogs to use their nose to identify a target odor offers many benefits. Medical tests have even shown that specially trained dogs are capable of using the dog’s sense of smell to detect certain types of tumors in humans. Scent Work is a highly recommended working game for families to learn to work their family pets. If a dog has a job\, it helps keep them happy and balanced\, which equals a good dog. \nNot many family dogs will be used for bomb detection\, competition or tracking work\, but every family dog can learn to play Hide N Seek and find objects hidden around the house. These games can be used to help provide mental stimulation for your dog and provide a job to keep him active. Scenting is an activity that all dogs enjoy and all dogs can do. \nParticipants must register in advance as class size is limited to 10 dogs and their handlers. \nIn this class we will teach you how to pair scent with your food treats in your “food” box. The scent used in class will be birch\, which you will receive during the class. \nPre-requisites to attend: \n\nCompletion of a Beginner Scent Work Class and/or a private lesson for Scent Work training.\nDog must know the box game and actively be seeking out and finding the “food” box consistently.\n\n

SUMMARY:Yoga and Exercise with Your Dog
DESCRIPTION:Cost is $20 to participate with your dog and $10 to participate without your dog. \nClass will begin with a warm-up routine for humans. Dogs will enjoy agility obstacles and the play command. You will perform exercises while training your dog in various stationary behaviors like sit/stay and down/stay. The human exercises include body-weight\, cardio and yoga. Your instructor will show the exercises with modifications to be more challenging or less challenging so everyone of every fitness level can participate and succeed! Working through the distraction of your movements will be a fun challenge for you and your dog. \nItems to bring: \n\n6’ Training leash and training collar.\nTreats and a treat pouch that closes and opens easily.\nWater (for Humans)\, water for dogs will be provided outside.\n\nRequirements to attend class: \n\nFriendly dogs that know basic behaviors: Sit\, Down\, Stay.\nUp-to-date vaccination records.
