Please bring all of your usual tools needed for class and be sure to have a treat bag filled with your dog’s most favorite treats. Please sign up and prepay in advance. This class is open to students from all levels of classes. \nLocation \nAt Misty Pines we work towards building solid obedience and behavior throughout any distraction that we may come across. To solidify these behaviors we work through four variables of dog training; Distance\, Distraction\, Duration\, and Location. DESCRIPTION:11:00 am class is FULL. Please register for the 12:30 pm class. \nPaul Leabhart will conduct an intro to Dock Diving class. Paul has many years of Dock Dog competition and training experience. This workshop will include demonstrations on how to begin training for dock diving. The class will visit the Dog Pond for demos and to get the dogs in the water. \nIf you are interested in dock diving with your dog\, this is one class you don’t want to miss! Learn the facts about techniques\, rules and getting prepared for when you do your first event. It is still a great time even if you don’t plan to compete. \nBring your dogs and their favorite toy\, there will be experienced dock divers ready to help you and your dog at the pond. \nRegistration online or by phone is required to attend class. Payment will be taken at the class and must be cash or check. Checks should be made out to Misty Pines Pet Company.

DESCRIPTION:Did you watch America’s Got Talent?  The clicker is one of the tools that contestants like Sara Carson used to train her dog Hero and how Jokgu the chicken learned to play the keyboard! \nThe clicker is a small\, springy\, snappy metal hand tool utilized in training to reward a desirable behavior immediately with precise timing. It is a secondary reinforcer that signals to the dog that it performed the correct behavior and that a primary reward will be shortly forthcoming. Clicker training pairs the neutral sound of a clicker with a primary reward\, such as a treat. Eventually\, the clicker becomes a predictor that the reward will soon be given. This allows the trainer to use the sound of the click to reinforce the desired behavior. This is particularly useful when teaching a new trick because the owner is not always in a position to give the food reward immediately. \nWhen training tricks it is best to use food paired with the sound of the clicker. Many tricks must be taught in steps and each step needs to be reinforced immediately to help the dog understand the process. The clicker enables you to reward each step at the exact moment of success. \nOnce the dog reliably performs the desired behavior\, we can start weaning away from the clicker and food. \n101 Requirement: Dog must be food motivated.\n102 Requirement: Dog must be food motivated and have completed course 101.\n103 Requirement: Dog must be food motivated and have completed course 102. \n101 Curriculum: Handlers will learn how to teach simple tricks such as sit\, down\, stay\, stand\, side and rollover\, touch and give me five\, utilizing a clicker. \n102 Curriculum: We will continue using the clicker to shape new tricks. \n103 Curriculum: Continue to build on previous tricks and learn to teach multi-step tricks utilizing the clicker. \nRecommendations: Bring a hungry dog\, leash and collar\, treat bag and yummy treats. If you do not have a treat bag\, they are sold at Misty Pines. You may purchase one before class.

It is a secondary reinforcer that signals to the dog that it performed the correct behavior and that a primary reward will be shortly forthcoming. Clicker training pairs the neutral sound of a clicker with a primary reward\, such as a treat. Eventually\, the clicker becomes a predictor that the reward will soon be given. This allows the trainer to use the sound of the click to reinforce the desired behavior. This is particularly useful when teaching a new trick because the owner is not always in a position to give the food reward immediately. \nWhen training tricks it is best to use food paired with the sound of the clicker. Recommended for those that took 101 Class and for those whose dogs can already use a treadmill but would like their dog to perform better. \nAt Misty Pines we say that a well-trained and well-exercised dog is a good dog and by working your dog on a treadmill you are accomplishing both at the same time. Why a treadmill\, you ask? You can infinitely exercise your dog indoors\, which means that you are no longer governed by the weather. \nBelow are some excerpts from an article by Jt Clough from All Things Dog Blog about treadmill training: \nMost people wish they had just some of the energy their bouncy happy-go-lucky dog naturally possesses. Unfortunately for many dogs bad behavior happens because the energy level the dog mom or dad has simply does not match the energy level of their dog. \nWhat are the reasons your dog would benefit from dog treadmill training? \nDogs need exercise. Some dogs need a lot of exercise and end up in some sort of trouble because of something they’ve done that was bad simply because they have energy that needed to be burned. Chewing on the house and all the things in it\, barking\, jumping up on people or pulling on the leash so hard while walking or running feels like a really frustrating task are a few of the reasons to think about adding a treadmill to your dog’s life. \nWeather conditions is another huge reason for treadmilling your dog. Too hot or too cold\, too windy or raining\, the treadmill is a great way to get your dog the exercise needed to remain a happy healthy\, well behaved dog. Lack of activity during winter months can not only put added pounds on your dog cutting years of their life but add to the misbehaving aspect of daily living as well. \n \nMany people feel like this option is one that will stop them from going outside and enjoying time with their dog and so never consider the idea\, when in fact the treadmill can open up the world to a dog who has bad leash manners. Exercise takes the edge off the nervous system in people and it works for dogs in the same way. \nWhat kinds of dogs do well with treadmill training? All dogs. Honestly. From big dogs to little dogs to anything in between treadmill training can benefit any dog for a variety of reasons. The training program can vary depending breed\, what kind of energy level and behavior you’d like to address with your dog or for training specific dog sports like agility or herding. \nTreadmill training programs can go from very basic to quite specific. As a DogTread Pro training expert\, I always recommend when starting a training program with your dog\, start with short periods of time–10 minutes or less. This is true for dogs that are already fit or need to lose a few pounds. Once your dog has become familiar with the activity and had time to loosen up muscle tissue and ligaments you’ll be able to build the workout time and find variations of speed and incline. \nAnother bonus that has come with this new activity to do with your dog is the number of people who end up catching the training endorphins from their own dog\, and find themselves exercising more.
