SUMMARY:Blueberry Hill Park Class
DESCRIPTION:Misty Pines Pet Company will be holding a special location dog training class at Blueberry Hill Park in Franklin Park Borough. Blueberry Hill Park is just a few minutes away from Misty Pines. Class will meet at the Maple Grove Pavilion parking lot at 6:30 pm. Please bring all of your usual tools needed for class and be sure to have a treat bag filled with your dog’s most favorite treats. Please sign up and prepay in advance. This class is open to students from all levels of classes. \nLocation \nAt Misty Pines we work towards building solid obedience and behavior throughout any distraction that we may come across. To solidify these behaviors we work through four variables of dog training; Distance\, Distraction\, Duration\, and Location. Location is perhaps one of the most important variables of training a dog to cope with everyday situations such as someone coming to your door or taking your dog to the park on a sunny afternoon. As a general rule\, a dog will only work where it has been taught to do so. Therefore\, if the only place that you ever practice obedience such as heeling and stays is here in training class or at home in your living room\, it is likely that your dog will find it difficult to hold their focus while faced with the unique distractions present in a new location. Keep in mind that when we change a variable in training\, we make the cue and behavior unique to that situation. Remember that you may need to take a step back and teach a known behavior with lure and reward techniques the first time in a new location so that the dog learns to execute at this new location with unique distractions. \nThe Variables of Training \nDistance\nDistraction\nDurations\nLocation

SUMMARY:Warm Up and Practice Dock Diving Trial
DESCRIPTION:This will be a competition for practice\, fun and ribbons. \nThere will be 2 rounds of jumps. One will be at 9:30 am\, and one at 12:30 pm. Each dog entered will get 2 jumps off the dock. The better of the two jumps will determine the dog’s division and place in that division. When the afternoon jumps are over\, the top 6 dogs of each division will jump for 1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd place in their division. The top three places will receive a ribbon and prizes. \nNovice Division: 1 inch to 9 feet 11 inches.\nJunior Division: 10 feet to 14 feet 11 inches.\nSenior Division: 15 feet to 19 feet 11 inches.\nMaster Division: 20 feet to 22 feet 11 inches.\nElite Division: 23 feet to 24 feet 11 inches.\nSuper Elite Division: 25 feet and above. \nA Beginner Dock Diving Class for beginner and non-jumping dogs with experienced Dock Divers will take place from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm. This practice is limited to 15 dogs. \nNo parking will be permitted along the driveway. All parking will be in the parking lots at the top of the driveway. Participants and spectators are asked to bring lawn chairs to sit along the hillside\, which will provide a spectacular view of the event. \nEach round of jumps\, at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm\, will have a 50 dog maximum\, so be sure to get your spot soon. Our most fit and athletic dogs can run on the treadmill at 8 -10 mph for twenty to thirty minutes! \n \nAt Misty Pines we say that a well-trained and well-exercised dog is a good dog and by working your dog on a treadmill you are accomplishing both at the same time. Why a treadmill\, you ask? You can infinitely exercise your dog indoors\, which means that you are no longer governed by the weather. \nBelow are some excerpts from an article by Jt Clough from All Things Dog Blog about treadmill training: \nMost people wish they had just some of the energy their bouncy happy-go-lucky dog naturally possesses. Unfortunately for many dogs bad behavior happens because the energy level the dog mom or dad has simply does not match the energy level of their dog. \nWhat are the reasons your dog would benefit from dog treadmill training? \nDogs need exercise. Some dogs need a lot of exercise and end up in some sort of trouble because of something they’ve done that was bad simply because they have energy that needed to be burned. Chewing on the house and all the things in it\, barking\, jumping up on people or pulling on the leash so hard while walking or running feels like a really frustrating task are a few of the reasons to think about adding a treadmill to your dog’s life. \nWeather conditions is another huge reason for treadmilling your dog. Too hot or too cold\, too windy or raining\, the treadmill is a great way to get your dog the exercise needed to remain a happy healthy\, well behaved dog. Lack of activity during winter months can not only put added pounds on your dog cutting years of their life but add to the misbehaving aspect of daily living as well. \nMany people feel like this option is one that will stop them from going outside and enjoying time with their dog and so never consider the idea\, when in fact the treadmill can open up the world to a dog who has bad leash manners. Exercise takes the edge off the nervous system in people and it works for dogs in the same way. \nWhat kinds of dogs do well with treadmill training? All dogs. Honestly. From big dogs to little dogs to anything in between treadmill training can benefit any dog for a variety of reasons. The training program can vary depending breed\, what kind of energy level and behavior you’d like to address with your dog or for training specific dog sports like agility or herding. \nTreadmill training programs can go from very basic to quite specific. As a DogTread Pro training expert\, I always recommend when starting a training program with your dog\, start with short periods of time–10 minutes or less. This is true for dogs that are already fit or need to lose a few pounds. Once your dog has become familiar with the activity and had time to loosen up muscle tissue and ligaments you’ll be able to build the workout time and find variations of speed and incline. \nAnother bonus that has come with this new activity to do with your dog is the number of people who end up catching the training endorphins from their own dog\, and find themselves exercising more. Even those who use some of the time to sit and answer e-mails while in the same room with their dog treadmill\, get the benefit of a stronger bond with their dog.

SUMMARY:Beginner Conformation
DESCRIPTION:Beginner Conformation is offered to all dogs whose owners want to learn handling skills. In a fun\, relaxed environment\, we will discuss show terminology\, ring etiquette and what to expect at dog shows. Students will learn how to stack and gait their dog as well as basic patterns. No prior experience is required\, and novice handlers are highly encouraged to attend. All dogs over 4 months of age are welcome to attend. \n\nFocuses on Stand-stay\, learning ring procedure\, and what to expect at a show.\nOpen to all. New/novice handlers encouraged to attend this class.\nLots of discussion and practice on how to properly and defectively exhibit their dog.\nWe have a stacking table for small dogs.\nWe do not have a ramp.\n\n“The conformation classes held the past 4 weeks with Kelly have been outstanding!!! She has taught me more in 4 weeks than any other teacher has taught me about dog handling. She is patient\, kind\, and knowledgeable. This is the first class I have ever taken with Kelly and I look forward to more training with her.”\n~Sue E.
